A Round to Remember. A City to Come Back To.

Not everyone knows that Prague is a golf city. Those who do tend to keep it to themselves.

Within the city and just beyond it, a quietly impressive collection of courses sits among parkland, river valleys and, in one case, the shadow of a medieval castle. The landscape around Prague was made for golf, gentle valleys, mature woodland, and a quality of light in the early morning that makes stepping onto the first tee feel like a genuine privilege.

For golfers, it is one of Europe's most quietly rewarding trips. A great city with great golf just outside it. The two sit together beautifully.

Golf in the City

Prague has courses of its own, which is rarer than it sounds.

Black Bridge Golf Resort sits in the eastern suburbs, 20 minutes from the centre, open year round, and perfectly suited to a morning round before an afternoon in the Old Town. Book early in the week if you can. Weekends fill quickly and the course plays better when it isn't rushed. Golf Hostivař is quieter and more intimate, a good option when you want a round without committing to a full day away from the city. Prague City Golf Club at Zbraslav plays out along the Vltava valley with a stillness that feels further from the centre than it actually is. Go in the morning. The light on the river is worth arriving early for.

Beyond the City

Further out, the courses change character entirely.

Karlštejn Golf Resort plays beneath the walls of a 14th-century royal castle, fairways threading through wooded hillsides, limestone outcrops and quiet lakes. A weekday morning in early autumn is when it is at its best. The castle catches the low light in a way that makes the whole setting feel slightly unreal. Albatross Golf Resort has hosted European Tour events and plays with the precision that suggests. Patient golf is rewarded here. The impatient kind considerably less so. If you are playing Albatross, allow the full day. It earns it.

Oaks Prague

And then there is Oaks Prague.

The only PGA National licensed course in the country. Designed by Kyle Phillips, a designer whose work spans every continent. Set within a 350-acre estate whose clubhouse was once a chateau and still carries a quiet grandeur that sets the tone before you reach the first tee.

The course flows through oak-studded valleys with an unhurried beauty that rewards attention. And then, somewhere around the 14th, the Prague skyline appears quietly on the horizon. It is one of those moments that stays with you long after the round is done.

It has been named Best Course in Europe at the World Golf Awards. Less than 30 minutes from the city centre, it manages to feel entirely removed from it. That, perhaps, is part of what makes a day there so good.

We have a close relationship with Oaks Prague and know it well. For guests who want to play there, we are happy to arrange everything – tee times, transfers, and whatever else the day requires.

The Shape of a Good Day

Breakfast at The Julius before you leave. A proper one. The drive out through the Czech countryside as the morning opens up. Pack a light layer, the valleys hold the chill longer than you might expect, even in summer.

Eighteen holes on a course that deserves your full attention. A long lunch in the clubhouse afterwards, unhurried, well fed, the round still turning over quietly in your mind.

And then back to Prague. Back to The Julius. A city that has a way of feeling like a reward at the end of a good day away from it. The evening light on the Old Town. A cold drink somewhere quiet. The particular satisfaction of a day well spent.

A few things worth knowing

  • Oaks Prague books up quickly, spring and autumn especially. Book as far in advance as you can

  • A valid handicap certificate is required at Oaks Prague and most championship courses – have yours ready

  • Arrive with time to spare at Oaks – the estate deserves more than a hurried glance on the way to the first

  • If the weather looks uncertain, go anyway. The valleys have a particular atmosphere on a moody Czech morning

  • Most courses are 20 to 45 minutes from the city centre

  • Spring and early autumn offer the finest playing conditions around Prague

  • Equipment hire is available at most courses, worth arranging in advance to avoid any last minute uncertainty on the day

The course is just outside the city. Everything else is right here.
